Gift Day - Sunday 26 March 2023

What is Gift Day?

A history of generosity at Figtree Anglican Church

The story of Figtree Anglican is one of providence and generosity. Figtree Anglican is rich with resource and has been a blessing to others because of a history of the saints being generous with the provision of God. FAC’s Annual Gift Day has been an opportunity to walk in the legacy of generosity and continue to see Figtree Anglican accomplish various projects for the good of the Kingdom of God.

Each year, Gift Day provides an opportunity to contribute to various projects across our church and beyond. Past Gift Day projects have contributed to essential maintenance on our church property, supported new or existing ministries or provided opportunities to share our resources with others.

2023 Gift Day Projects

FAC heating and cooling

$50,000

The foyer at FAC, while home to the Oasis Café and a popular place for fellowship and conversation after Sunday services, is a fantastic multi-purpose space that is also regularly used to host smaller-scale events throughout the week. However, anyone who uses the foyer in the winter months knows that it can often resemble an icebox, with the chilly temperature requiring several layers of clothing and at times wrapping yourself in a blanket to ward off the cold. Meanwhile, the air-conditioning system in the auditorium/Children’s Ministry Centre is now 20 years old and coming to the end of its scheduled life expectancy. We might be blessed to get another five years’ service from it, or it could begin failing within the next 12 months. Either way, it will need to be replaced sometime soon at a cost that is projected to run into six figures. This Gift Day project is two-pronged - to install ceiling-hung, stylish, low-energy electric infrared heaters to warm the foyer, and to begin to raise the funds needed to replace the auditorium/CMC air-conditioning. It is offering a gift for the Lord’s building at Figtree, maintaining good stewardship of the wonderful legacy He has given us to preserve and pass on in good condition to a future generation. Giving to this project will allow FAC to continue to provide a comfortable environment for all - both those in our church family and the wider community - who use our foyer, auditorium and children’s ministry centre.

‘Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.’ - 2 Corinthians 9:7

410 Interns

$20,000

Figtree Anglican Church is continuing to write a rich history of training young people for ministry, through our 410 Intern program. Since 2015, when the program was introduced, FAC has invested in training more than a dozen young adults in areas as diverse as youth and children’s ministry, creative arts, communications and design, evangelism, and word ministry, alongside formal theological training and practical ministry instruction. FAC currently has two interns on the ministry team – one working in the creative arts space and the other in word ministry. This Gift Day project has a target of raising funds to ensure that FAC continues to invest in raising up gospel workers for the harvest.

‘Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field”.’ - Matthew 9:37-38

Ignite Youth Camp

$25,000

Ignite is the annual week-long camp for the youth and young adult communities of FAC. Held in January, it is a critical launchpad for these communities that regularly step up and serve our church in many remarkable, sacrificial and often unheralded ways throughout the year. As FAC moves towards a financial structure that allows for major events such as Ignite to be cost-neutral against the church operating budget, this Gift Day project seeks to raise $25,000, to both sponsor kids to camp who may not otherwise be able to afford to go and also help subsidise the cost of camp for others including our fantastic youth leaders. Ignite is a wonderful opportunity to present the life-transforming message of the gospel, and by doing so raise up a new generation of young people equipped to take the message of salvation through Jesus to our community and the world.

‘Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labour in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the guards stand watch in vain.’ - Psalm 127:1

SRE (Scripture in public schools)

$20,000

How will kids ever hear about the life and hope found only in Christ when it seems the church and faith in Jesus is no longer relevant in our community? This is why we are so committed to praying protection over and equipping volunteers to share about Jesus with children from when they first start school, through to the life-forming years of high school.

Over many years, FAC has been faithful and generous in prayerfully and financially supporting scripture in local primary and high schools. This tax-deductible Gift Day project continues the long-running commitment of ensuring that the truths of Scripture continue to be shared with schoolchildren across our parish.

*This is a tax-deductible project. If you’d like to receive a tax receipt for your gift please send an email to our Finance Officer, Carolyn Benge, at carolyn.benge@myfac.org.au

‘Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these”.’ - Matthew 19:14

Creative Arts

$10,000

The Creative Arts teams at FAC have been blessed over the years by the generosity of faithful church members who have made long-term equipment loans to the worship team. As circumstances have changed and those pieces of equipment are no longer available, we are seeking through this Gift Day project to maintain the standard of gear available for the team. Our in-ear monitoring systems have been part of a strategy to reduce stage volume levels and allow our sound engineers to have greater control over the mix for the congregation. We are seeking to replace two In-Ear Monitor (IEM) transmitter units, which will service four IEM packs for the worship team. We are also wanting to purchase a Nord Stage 3 keyboard, an important piece of equipment that we have previously had on loan from a church member. That is no longer the case. The Nord Stage 3 is an industry-standard keyboard for contemporary worship services.

‘Sing to the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord, all the earth. Sing to the Lord, praise his name, proclaim his salvation day after day.’ – Psalm 96:1-2
